Protect Yourself from Debit Card Fraud
Fraud attempts are becoming more sophisticated, and a new scam is targeting debit card users through digital banking. Here’s what you should know and how to protect yourself.
How the Scam Works
Fraudsters call pretending to be a bank employee or federal agency representative. They claim there’s an issue with your account and ask for your digital banking username, password, or PIN.
Once they have your information, they:
- Change your login credentials and lock you out of your account
- Update your ATM PIN
- Add your card to a digital wallet on their device
- Withdraw money using contactless ATMs
What to Watch For
- Citizens State Bank will never ask for your username, password, or card information.
- Don’t trust caller ID. Scammers can make their number look legitimate.
- Hang up and call the bank directly using the number on your debit card or our website if something feels off.
How to Stay Protected
- Set up account and transaction alerts in your Citizens Digital Banking app.
- Use strong, unique passwords and change them regularly.
- Keep your digital banking credentials private.
- Report any suspicious calls or transactions to your local branch right away.
